There are two things I know with absolute certainty: kids can be a handful and booze makes everything better. And if you can make that booze yourself, well then that’s a home run.

Listen, I know you’ve been trying your best to eat well and get healthy this January. You’ve been rocking the salads and healthy pasta and you’re feeling bomb diggity.

I also know that just because you’re a mom doesn’t mean you’ve forgotten how to have fun. That is why I’m giving you two fabulous recipes that will have you a little tipsy and feeling like Martha in no time. And yes, I know that Martha is a little more magic brownies than homemade alcohol right now but everything Martha touches turns to gold so we’re not gonna get picky about how she unwinds, know what I’m saying? Now, back to the booze.

This first recipe I’m sharing with you is the straight up nectar of the Gods. My father is straight off the boat from Ireland so I feel like a love of Bailey’s runs in my blood. I can’t help it! I came across a recipe for homemade Bailey’s a few years ago, tweaked it and made it my own and I have never bought the real version again. It just tastes synthetic and honestly, it costs WAY too much for this mom!

I give this Irish cream away every Christmas to my friends and family and I am now their favourite person ever. Make this and you too can be the most popular girl in the room!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/3 cups Irish Whiskey- I like Jaimeson’s
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 can of condensed milk, 300ml
  • 2 teaspoons real vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup
  • 1 teaspoon instant coffee

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Combine all of your ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth and creamy. Don’t blend too long or your cream will start to whip!
  2. Refrigerate in an airtight container and it should be good for approx. 2 months but it won’t last that long!!

When I was in my early 20’s, I had a real thing for Amaretto Sours. Many-a-night was spent drinking the sweet almondy-lemonade and many a morning spent cursing its very existence. Now that I am an adult and far smarter than I was (debatable) I prefer my amaretto with coffee. For breakfast. Of course.

This recipe is amazing because you can make it as sweet as you like and if you want to get a little more fancy you can even throw in some orange extract. This too makes an awesome gift- or as I said before, an awesome breakfast. I may have a drinking problem…

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups vodka
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons almond extract
  • 2 teaspoons real vanilla extract

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Combine water and sugars in a pot and heat over medium. Stir until the mixture is boiling and the sugar is dissolved. Remove the pan from the heat and let the mixture cool for 10 minutes.
  2. Stir vodka, almond extract and vanilla extract into the mixture.

These two fantastically delicious beverages are going to be your new favourites, I promise. You may never go back to the store bought stuff again. And because you made it yourself, it’s basically healthy!

One final StaceyGreenLiving tip: remember to drink good ol’ H2O every time you drink. Drinking water doesn’t make you less drunk, but it does make you less hung over. You’re welcome.
