While we can’t disclose any of the details quite yet, we wanted to write a little post to prep you for a v exciting announcement that we are poised to make in the coming weeks.

It’s an announcement that signifies a changing day in our careers. An announcement that legitimizes the insane amount of work and dedication it has taken to write, publish, and promote a book in just over a year while maintaining a personal life and raising 3 kids under 4 between us.

What we’re about to (proudly) tell you involves travel. It involves picking up and leaving – 4 weeks after our kids’ first days of school… And then leaving again 2 weeks after that… And then again 2 weeks after that. It involves 3 huge U.S. cities and some epic new partnerships.

As we write, we know that there are millions of women around the world whose kids are heading back to school and whose work calendars are like ticking time bombs, counting down the days until they can explode with obligations all the way through to December. Women who studied their asses off and then worked their asses off to dominate in their careers… only to be met with judgement for their “questionable priorities” when that career takes them away from their kids for any amount of time deemed “too long” by the old guard.

We know that there are a lot of people out there who will be cheering us on (#bless), but we also know that there are some who have yet to escape their own antiquated sentiments regarding household gender roles. We wish those who fall into the latter category peace (there’s little else to do) – and we hope that YOU will not let THEIR judgement stop you from doing whatever the fuck you want to do with your life.

But right there beside that outside judgement is the guilt that lives within the confines of our very own brains. Together they are a force to be reckoned with, but in our experience, they can be quelled with one question: What would dads do?

What if we were dads and not moms? How would we make important decisions about our lives, our careers, and our families?

Would we say no to a Tri-City book tour just because it was slated to begin right as our kids entered Kindergarten? Probably not. Why? Because Dads trust in their villages. They are confident in their partners’ abilities and they know that their kids will be well looked after in their absence if work-life ever temporarily pulls them away. They also believe that their ideas and talents are worth taking a chance on.

Well we trust our villages too – Our partners, our families, our childcare providers and our friends. We also value our thoughts and ideas. A lot. So we’ve booked our flights and we are ready to launch our brains as far as they’re ready to fly.

Now – could this entire post be an expression of underlying fears and insecurities disguised as a battle cry of feminist ideals? C’est possible.

But that’s neither here nor there. What matters is that while we admittedly experience those feelings of fear and uncertainty (just like every other workin’ mom we know) we also move past them as quickly as possible, because we know our village will not let us down. Because we know our thoughts are worth sharing. And because we’re motherfucking Rebel Mamas and we will forever make our decisions based on curiosity and love – not fear. We encourage you to do the same.

Rebel On.

New York, Chicago, L.A. – we’re coming for you.

xx RM
