I don’t know about you, but the thought of attending an aerobics class, hopping on a spinning bike, or even just jogging on a treadmill literally makes me want to hurl myself off a cliff. Why? BECAUSE I’M GODDAMN EXHAUSTED ALREADY; THAT’S WHY.
Motherhood is absolutely, hands down, the most physical thing I have ever done with my body.
I guess I should admit here that I’ve never been a star athlete (I know – shocking, right?). I wasn’t really the most active of adolescents… I did play rugby for a few weeks though, and I was known to run extra laps at gym class for talking during sports instructions…
As an adult, my physical activities include walking (A LOT of walking) and yoga. Both of which, combined with a healthy diet, have kept me movin’ and groovin’ with a fair amount of ease for the better part of a decade.
And then pregnancy happened.
Pregnancy is like running the longest marathon of your life… And running it while wearing a weight vest.
Oh, and no breaks, folks!
Any other physical activity I’ve ever been forced into has at least been accompanied by breaks. But not pregnancy.
As if that wasn’t enough physical stress on my body, then came labour.
Then surgery.
Then nursing.
Then mastitis.
Then carrying the newborn (ALL THE TIME).
Then carrying the newborn and toddler simultaneously.
Tack on running up and down the stairs 80x a day.
Oh and squatting dead lifts picking up the baby from his bouncy chair.
Plus baby wearing.
And park going.
And stroller walking.
And house cleaning.
Food preparing.
Baby rocking.
Baby bouncing.
Wifeying.
High-heel wearing.
Airborne toy dodging.
PHEW!
So no. I won’t be going to the gym anytime soon. Toning can wait. Strength Training can kiss my ass. And cardio? I’m literally giving cardio the middle finger as we speak.
If you need me, I’ll be over here momming in #BEASTMODE.
This is some straight talk, girl! I’m 100% feeling you on this! ?
